The twelfth season of CSI: Crime Scene Investigation premiered on September 21, 2011 on CBS.[2] The show now airs on Wednesdays at 10/9c, following Criminal Minds.[3]

Notable cast members

Laurence Fishburne did not renew his contract for Season 12 making this season the first season without an African American starring. He was replaced by actor Ted Danson.[4] Elisabeth Harnois also joined the cast as Morgan Brody, the daughter of Conrad Ecklie.[5] Marg Helgenberger will leave the cast in January 2012.[6][7] Elisabeth Shue will replace Marg Helgenberger.[8] William Petersen was initially scheduled to return as Gil Grissom for Catherine's final episode, 'Willows in the Wind', but his return has since been cancelled owing to CBS not wanting to steal the spotlight from Helgenberger's exit arc.[9]

Season twelve begins with the arrivals of D.B. Russell, the new supervisor and Morgan Brody, Conrad Ecklie's daughter. A crazy, chaotic shoot-out on a hotel tram leaves two dead, almost no witnesses, and a lot of contradictory evidence; another dead man in Panaca County has a young man's face and an old man's body.
